A market town, with a population of 10,621, who are employed in the cambric, muslin, and fustian trades. The pasture land is good, mid coal and limestone abound in the neighbourhood. Cheese is made here. Highs, the original inventor of the spinning jenny and water frame, winch Arkwright only improved, was a native.
