Bradshaw’s Guide

Situated between the canal and Watling Street, from which it derives its name (Watling-town). Some interest attaches to it as a watering place, having its mineral springs and baths; also its churches, chapels, saving’s bank, &c., &c. About 3 miles south is the noble peak of the Wrekin, 1,320 feet above the plain, the top of which commands a most extensive prospect.
