Hanley

Containing a population of 31,953 inhabitants, is a municipal borough in the north of Staffordshire. The iron trade is now becoming a most important feature in the commerce of the pottery district. Earl Granville’s furnaces, located near Hanley, employ about 3,000 hands.

To the north of Hanley is Norton-in-the-Moors. These moors stretch for miles and miles through this end of the county, into Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
