This place has a population of about 2,959, who are chiefly employed in the stocking, linen, tanning, muslin, and embroidering trades. The harbour is inside a pier 600 feet long, with a fixed light 35 feet high, visible 10 miles distant. The Carjee Half Tide Rock lies one mile N.E.; and Hampton Hill, the seat of E. C. Hamilton, Esq., is close at hand.
