Alford

A place remarkable for the defeat of the Covenanters by Montrose in 1645. It is situated on the Don, in which are salmon fisheries, and has a fair once a month for cattle. In the vicinity are Haughton House, J. Farquharson, Esq., Castle Forbes, Lord Forbes, and Whitehaugh,  —  Forbes, Esq.
