Mauchline

On Mauchline Moor is a church lately rebuilt, where Wishart preached in 1544; and here the royalists were defeated in 1647. At the Green is a stone on which is recorded the death of five persons by “Bloody Dumbarton, Douglas, Dundee,” &c., in 1685. Burns wrote his u Mauchline Belles,” &c., at J. Dow’s and Poosie Nansie’s Inns. Near at hand is Barskimming Bridge, erected by Sir T. Miller, of Glenlee, Gavin Hamilton’s House, the Lugar, and Ballochmyle.
