Airdrie

This town is situated in the centre of the Scottish coal district, which has caused its present prosperity. It was the ancient Arderyth, where in 577 Rydderech defeated Aidan. Bathgate may be reached from this place by rail, 19f miles distant. At Monkland Well is a good mineral spa, and Airdrie House is the seat of Miss Mitchelson.
