Wolverhampton to Stafford

Staffordshire : Wolverhampton

This ancient town, which in Saxon times was noted for its college, founded by Wulfruna, sister of King Egbert, and thence called Wulfrunes-hampton.

Staffordshire : Four Ashes

To the left is Somerford Hall, and beyond Brewood, with its beautiful Church and Grammar School. Chillington Park and Hilton Hall are likewise in the vicinity.

Spread Eagle. Two miles distant is Stretton Hall, and 4 miles to the west is Weston Park, the seat of the Earl of Bradford. This station is on the Old Watling Street, which crosses the line at right angles.

Here is a large church, and two miles north-east, Teddesley Park, seat of Lord Hatherton.

Staffordshire : Stafford

Stafford is the capital, but by no means the largest town, of Staffordshire.
