Bradshaw’s Guide

This town, with a population of 901, engaged in the corn and provision trade, is delightfully situated in the midst of beautiful scenery and commands fine views of Bootle Fell and Black Combe Mountains 1,919 feet high, the latter of which has remains of a nunnery and church at Seton. The old church is a fine edifice, and contains an eight-sided font, and a cross of Sir H. Askew, of Seton Hall.
